Black-crested macaques are found only on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia and they are critically endangered. I went to the island specifically to photograph these monkeys and was able to spend several hours surrounded by them in the forest. Celebes Crested Macaque
The Celebes crested macaque, also known as the crested black macaque, Sulawesi crested macaque, or the black ape, is an Old World monkey that lives in the northeast of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi as well as on smaller neighboring islands.
